Non-Fiction Books

For fourteen years, Murphy has been known in the magazine industry as one of the most versatile writers in the business, ranging extensively about exercise and nutrition, relationships, lifestyle + business, first-person humor, celebrity, travel and sports for over 50+ international men’s AND women’s magazines. Because of that range, his first non-fiction book projects centered around the health industry, but are  in the process of expanding into all genres (relationships, humor and celebrity), much like his magazine career.

Murphy launched his career in non-fiction books with the same genre he first became known for in magazines: writing about fitness and health for millions of readers. When Gunnar Peterson— internationally-known Core Secrets infomercial star and top Hollywood trainer to the stars—needed a book for Harper Collins that matched his expertise and uniquely clever style, he turned to Murphy for his comprehensive knowledge of fitness and his vast experience in humorous service journalism. The result was co-authoring G-Force, The Ultimate Guide to Your Best Body Ever (Harper Collins, 2005) in a mere 40 days. The book's paperback version, The Workout, (Harper Collins, 2006) was just released at the beginning of 2006.

The next step for Murphy was writing his own health and fitness book. The Body You Want in the Time You Have (Rodale Books, 2005) is a culmination of every exercise secret Murphy picked up writing for 50+ major magazines about fitness. In the past fourteen years, Murphy has interviewed nearly all of the top fitness professionals, Olympic trainers and exercise physiologists, including Karen Voight, Kiana Tom, Michael Cohen, Jake Steinfeld, Michelle Blessing, Mark Verstegen, Kurt Brungardt, Dan Wathen, Anne Marie Miller and Wayne Westcott. That experience led to writing a fitness book that anyone—men and women, young and old—could use to achieve the perfect physique… no matter how much time they have to devote to exercise.

Murphy is also the co-author of the upcoming book, the Men's Health Gym Bible (Rodale, 2006) and the author of Men's Health's Ultimate Dumbbell Workouts (Rodale, 2007), the first book of its' kind that shows readers how to create millions of exercises with virtual ease. He is also the writer of 5-Factor Diet (Meredith, 2007) for one of Hollywood's top trainers, Harley Pasternak and writer on the upcoming franchise book, CUTS Fitness for Men (Perigee Trade, 2007). Murphy is currently working on two other book projects unrelated to the fitness field--to be announced by his publishers.
